The warmer weather and longer days mean more opportunities to dine outside.
I love eating outside, especially in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The sunny summer days in Santa Fe are accompanied by cool breezes that encourage you to linger just a little longer over your meal.

The Essence of a Side Salad

Side salads are the unsung hero of any good menu. They add a bit of flavor and sustenance without stealing the thunder of the main course.

A great side salad can be as simple as using the following four ingredients:

1. 1 cup of lettuce
2. 1 table spoon of Extra Virgin Olive Oil
3. ¼ cup of sliced yellow onions
4. A squeeze of lemon, lime, or any other citrus fruit

Sunday Dinner

I have fond childhood memories of Sunday dinners.

Dinner was almost always served at 5:15 pm and it consisted of pot roast, corn on the cob, mashed potatoes, and a slice of pie with a small scoop of ice cream. We would all sit around the table discussing the events of the weekend and our finalizing plans for the upcoming week.

These days, I live far from my immediate family. However, I have remained resolute in my efforts to continue the tradition of Sunday dinner.

Hidden Budget Buster: Hamburger Buns

One of the hidden budget busters for me with regard to my grocery shopping has been hamburger buns.

As of a couple of weeks ago, I started using wheat sandwich bread instead of hamburger buns.

Admittedly, my first instance of using sandwich bread instead of hamburger buns yielded an awkward soggy bread mess.

Finding Your Cooking Groove With Generic Food Products

I grew up during the vast consumerdom of the 1980's. I can recall the stigma that would befall one if they were seen purchasing any type of generic items from the grocery store. Unfortunately, my mother had no qualms about buying generic products much to both my chagrin and embarassment.

These days, my student loans and house fund require that I abandon my prejudice againist generic food products.
