We are now in November and starting to look at prices for our beloved guest -- The Turkey. I was taught to get up about 7:am and wash my buddy (the turkey), add butter to the inside of the cavity, and lotion his skin down with nice rich butter. Putting my buddy aside, I would make sure the oven was ready at 375 degrees. I would cut aluminum foil and make a tent to cover the top of my buddy and put him in the oven. I would than have a wonderful cup of coffee and a couple of tamales that were already steamed. I would read the newspaper and see what was happening in Santa Fe, and the Northern part of New Mexico. After about 2 hours, I would get my baster and check on my buddy and baste him so he will stay juicy. I keep that up every hour after that. I would go ahead and start preping all the other wonderful side dishes that I would make and put them in the oven according how long each would take. This way everything would be ready at the same time. I get the blues now thinking back when my Mom was still alive and my brothers, their wives, the kids and I would sit together, say grace and have a feast. You never forget those great times. If anyone would like recipes to any of the dishes we make at home, please let me know. I would gladly give you the recipes. My Mom taught me to share and not be stingy. *winks*.
